Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives
The Williamsville Fire Protection District wants to make sure every home in our district has them. Through the Illinois Be Alarmed! program, we are now offering free smoke alarm installations for eligible homes in our community. If your home has no smoke alarms, alarms that are more than ten years old, or alarms that no longer work, we can help.
What the Program Includes
Everything below is provided at no cost to you.
Free Sealed-Battery Alarms
Ten-year sealed-battery smoke alarms, installed by our team at no cost to you. No batteries to buy and nothing to replace for a decade.
Proper Placement
Alarms placed properly throughout your home — on every level, inside bedrooms, and outside sleeping areas — to meet safety standards.
Safety Walkthrough
A quick walkthrough on alarm maintenance, home fire safety, and building an escape plan your whole household knows.
Bedshaker Alarms Available
We are also able to provide special bedshaker alarms for residents who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. These alarms use a vibrating pad placed under the mattress or pillow, along with a strobe light, so a resident can be alerted to a fire while sleeping. Let us know when you call and we will make sure the right equipment comes with our team.
Who Qualifies
This program is for owner-occupied homes within our district.
You May Need This If
- Your home has no smoke alarms at all.
- Your alarms are more than ten years old — check the manufacture date on the back of the unit.
- Your alarms no longer work, chirp constantly, or fail the test button.
Priority Households
Demand may exceed the alarms we have on hand at any given time. Priority is given to households with:
- Older adults
- Young children
- Homes currently without working alarms
